EAST MOLINE (EMS) – As he dove into the low groove on turns one and two, Eric Barnes already knew there is no place like home.

As usual, the Colona hotshoe bided his time, used his East Moline Speedway experience and got by early leader Jim Sandusky and others to win the J&J Camper Sales IMCA Modified 20-lap feature Sunday evening.

“I love this place. There’s nothing like East Moline,” Barnes said in the winners circle. “We’ve been the bridesmaid the last few nights. We got second here last week and got second at Davenport. So it feels good. The 10-year old GRT – she’s still clicking.”

Opening night winner Jeff Larson hopped behind the wheel of Kenny Kostenbader’s machine and ended up second after starting ninth, one spot behind Barnes.

Travis Denning, Brandon Durbin and Sandusky rounded out the top five.

Andy Nezworski started up top in the front row, stayed in the high groove and raced to the 25-lap Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Late Model win. Last week’s winner, Matt Ryan, gave chase, but could not solve the Buffalo, Iowa ace this night. Gary Webb, Chuck Hanna and Shawn Mulvaney were next.

A bent tail piece is not slowing down Jarrett Franzen.

The defending Legacy Corporation IMCA SportMod champion went top to bottom from his fourth starting spot to the lead on lap one and cruised away with the 15-lap win.

He also picked up a $100 bonus for winning at Maquoketa Speedway Saturday.

Jacob Copley held off a charging Austin Becerra for the runner up spot after Becerra started 11th. Dakota Cole and Logan Veloz followed.

Jon Padilla held off Mike Zemo, Jr. after a late caution to take the 15-lap Weekend Performance IMCA Mod Lite victory. Mike Morrow, Rob Guss and Michael Dominguez completed the top five.

Joe Bonney was just as surprised as anyone after his 15-lap County Waste Systems Street Stock win.

Early leader Jesse Owen and Zach Zuberbier traded paint constantly in the early stages. They then made contact under yellow and both were forced to the pits with damage.

Erick Turner recovered from an early spin to take second, followed by Kyler Hickenbottom, Jim Rutsaert and Ben O’Dell.

Drew Burk made it two nights straight with a win as he took the 12-lap Rudy’s Tacos IMCA Hobby Stock main. Last week’s winner Daniel Wauters, Randy Lamar, Adam Parker and Donnie Cole III followed.

Dustin Begyn took the 12-lap Riverbend Pizza Place Sport Compact finale, beating Jimmy Dutlinger, early leader Dustin Forbes, Drew Wise and Cyle Hawkins.

Another great count of  competitors took the EMS green flag Sunday with the final checkered flag falling about 9 p.m.

The season continues in high gear with a Mother’s Day evening full of racing on the quarter-mile dirt oval this Sunday May 9. Racing takes place in all seven classes. Gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:30 with racing to follow.
