ROSSBURG, OH – Iowa racer Ricky Thornton Jr. started his first-ever World 100 at the famed Eldora Speedway on the front row, led for a number of laps, and finished the night with a top 10 after fading late.

Brandon Overton’s dominance of “The Big E” continued, however, as he took his third crown-jewel dirt super late model event at the track this season. NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion Kyle Larson also took a shot at winning the 51st World 100, briefly cracking the top 10 himself before fading back to finish 13th.

After the race, Thornton said:

“Started on the front row of the World 100 and led for 24 laps. The car was too tight and we faded back to eighth, but it feels great to start with a top 10, and look forward to starting over tomorrow.”

“RTJ” wasn’t the only Iowan to make the big show. Also making the A-main was Ryan Gustin, who started 15th, but “The Reaper” was forced to the pits early and finished 27th. Both racers will start qualifying again tonight for Saturday’s make-up running of the 50th World 100, which was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns last year.
